Many Books One Community

Many Books One Community 2023!

With thanks to the Paul, John, Anton & Doris Wirth Foundation, the Harry and Grace Moller Endowment, and the Nebraska City Community Foundation Fund, the Morton-James Public Library is launching “Many Books One Community” in April 2023!

Rather than choosing one book, there are many books this year for different reading levels from preschool through adult. The books are united on the theme of friendship! We hope each book will help us all discover something new about how we think about friendship.

Every school aged student in Nebraska City from preschool through 6th grade will receive a book and activity kit which will be distributed through the schools in the second and third weeks in April. Homeschool families who registered to receive book kits will be contacted when their kits are ready for pick up at the Library. Adults can request a copy of the adult category selection “No Better Friend” by calling the Library at 402-873-5609. There are 100 copies to be given away on a first come first serve basis.

As part of the Many Books One Community initiative, families can participate in the Community Cow Hunt starting on May 1st. Participating businesses in Nebraska City will have a picture of a cow with a name in their windows and participants can collect cow names to turn in to the Library for a prize. A list of Cow Hunt businesses is included in the book kits that will be distributed to schools. Lists can also be picked up at the Library starting on May 1st. We will update this page when the Cow Hunt begins!

The full list of selected books is below. We have all of the selected books available for checkout at the Library. We also have the Young Reader edition of “No Better Friend” available for checkout.
